Academic Editing

Some of the academic and technical materials I edit:

  • graduate theses and dissertations*
  • scholarly articles for journal submission
  • conference proceedings

*Dissertation and thesis editing requires prior approval from academic supervisors according to the agreement set out in Editors Canada’s Guidelines for Ethical Editing of Theses/Dissertations.

ESL Editing

If English is not your first language, it can be especially difficult to edit and proofread your own writing. I have worked extensively with non-native writers over the past 20 years as a teacher, online tutor, and editor. I can smooth and polish your work by editing to correct errors in grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.

Distance Learning

For distance education and e-learning materials, a substantive or structural edit can incorporate an instructional design review focused on the following:

  • course objectives, learning objectives, learning outcomes
  • course structure and content
  • assessments, including self-assessments and assignments
  • navigation and directions to students/learners
